Coolest discovery ever!

Ok, so I’m staying in tonight, and the bf is coming over…so any intention to get to the gym were immediately tossed out the window.  We have a gym here at work…with a few very simple (and decrepit) pieces of equipment.  3 treadmills (at least 15 years old.)  1 elliptical. (10 years old?)  A bike…and a stepper.  Needless to say, the elliptical is the first thing to go…then the good treadmill.  Soon enough you’re left with nothing but the crappy treadmills, or god forbid, the bike.  I think you’re sometimes just better off walking outside.  If it was frickin Arctic outside.  But I digress.

So I headed for the “gym,” and to my dismay, the elliptical was in use…so I defaulted to the “good” treadmill.  I was doing my thing…warmed up for a few…then ran some intervals.  (At one point, my ginormous water bottle went flying off the top of the machine where I had it sitting…and landing on the belt…forcing me to leap over it.  The kind guy who was finishing up his workout actually stopped what he was doing to pick it up and hand it back to me.  What a hero!)  I had been on the treadmill for about 11 mins when I started to get bored, and got off…with full intentions of finishing up my remaining 19 mins on the elliptical.

And then I spied the racquetball court.  Yes…for whatever reason, there is a racquetball court where I work.  Your guess is as good as mine…but hey, it’s cool.  So, being the inquisitive person that I am, decided to grab a racquet and ball, and head on in.

OH MY GOD!!  I have never had so much fun getting “exercise” in my life.  I had no idea what I was doing (as far as technical rules to the game) but let me tell you, I worked up a massive sweat chasing after and hitting that little rubber ball.  AND…an added bonus…it’s a major stress reliever.  To me, the treadmill and elliptical…and all of those pieces of equipment are annoying.  Granted we all use them..but still…they piss me off.  This on the hand…pure genius.  It was a blast.

The only down side is that I’m forced to take a shower…and get dressed twice in one day.  But hey…I come back to my desk feeling good…relaxed, and ready to take on the second half of my day.

Or sit here and blog, clearly not doing any work what so ever.

Oh well, it’s Friday.

A letter to Mom.

Take a gander if you’d like:

Three years ago today…

…my mother passed away.  Age 50.

And here I am…finally back to myself…and “ok” with her being gone.  Well, not necessarily ok…but I’ve accepted it.  You know what I mean.

Anyhoo, not going to get into a long, drawn out post.  Just wanted to make a mention of today…for the memory of my mother.

Me and Mom.

Go with what you know.

I had a bit of an epiphany last night.  It took some old photo albums and a beer in my hand, but it slammed me hard in my thick, stubborn head.

Do what worked for you the first time.

I was having a much needed “Kelly” night last night…stayed in my pj’s all day…put up Easter/St. Patty’s decorations….did an artsy project…then looked through a photo album from my 24th birthday….October 2004.

I had just hit my 100lb weight loss mark…and I was about 225lbs.  I sat on the floor last night staring at these pictures of myself…God I looked good!!  Even at 225, I looked awesome!!  And now, here I am….1/2 from where I started….ugh.

I’m not going to dwell.  I’m going to use those pictures as motivators to really focus.  I’m done with excuses.  I’m done with trying every fad diet I read in the new Woman’s World magazine on Sunday afternoon.  I’m done cheating, and trying to find a way to justify it. I’m just done.

I’m going to do what worked for me the first time…and give it my all.  It wasn’t easy the first time…and God knows it wasn’t overnight.

But it worked.

And will work again.

Duh.

=)

Have a great week folks!

NIU shooting 2.14.08

Hey All–

I’m an NIU Grad…class of 2003.  Keep all of those from Thursday’s shooting in your thoughts and prayers.

(It’s really weird to think about…my very first class was in Cole Hall…as well as my very last class before I graduated.  It’s sad to even begin to think about it.)

Stay Strong NIU!

Curves.

People…I’m so happy that I went back.  It’s been years, but it came back to me like riding a bike…it feels like I never left.  And the best part?  It’s over before I know it.

I’m optimistic. We’ll see how this plays out come Thursday with me first unofficial weigh in there.  (Not very hopeful though…I had a party with myself and 5 Long Islands over the weekend.  Yeah yeah I know…bad Kelly.  Believe me, I learned my lesson come Sunday!)

Have a great night folks…time to pay bills.

Jeez…did my last post scare you all off?

Well, I’m feeling much better today. The worst is over. I blogged about it if you want to check it out. I’d recap here, but my dog is sitting here starting at me, waiting to go for the walk I promised her. It’s a warm day here in Chi-Town…a beautiful 30 degrees. What better time than now, eh?
